How Many Words Fit on One Page?
There is no fixed number of words per page, because the count depends on the font, the font size, the margins, and the line spacing. As a working estimate, an A4 page in a 12-point font with standard margins holds roughly 500 words at single spacing and roughly 250 words at double spacing.
Arabic text usually fits fewer words per line than English at the same font size, because Arabic letterforms are wider and many fonts add generous line height. Headings, lists, and tables also take space without adding many words.
If you need an exact figure for an assignment or a translation quote, count the words in the text itself rather than estimating from the number of pages. Paste the text into the counter above and use the word total directly.
How Long Should an Article Be for SEO?
Google does not publish a minimum word count, and article length is not a ranking factor in itself. Google's guidance on helpful content states plainly that it has no preferred word count, and it warns against writing to a length because you heard search engines reward it.
What matters is whether the page fully answers the searcher's question. A precise definition can be complete in a few hundred words, while a comparison or a step-by-step guide may need several thousand. Look at the pages already ranking for your keyword to judge how much depth the topic demands, then write until the question is answered and stop.
Use the word counter to keep an eye on length while you edit: to trim padding from a long draft, or to spot a section that is too thin compared with the rest of the article.
How to Count Words in a Word or PDF File
In Microsoft Word, the word count appears in the status bar at the bottom of the window. For the full breakdown of characters, paragraphs, and lines, open the Review tab and choose Word Count. In Google Docs, open the Tools menu and choose Word count.
PDF readers generally do not show a word count. Open the file, select all the text, copy it, and paste it into the counter on this page. If the PDF is a scanned image, there is no text to select; you will need to run it through text recognition (OCR) first.
Totals can differ slightly between tools, because each one handles numbers, symbols, and stand-alone punctuation in its own way. This counter treats every run of characters separated by spaces as one word.
What Is Estimated Reading Time and How Is It Calculated?
Estimated reading time tells your reader roughly how long an article will take before they start. It is calculated by dividing the word count by an average reading speed.
This tool uses 200 words per minute and rounds up to the next whole minute. A 1,000-word article therefore shows 5 minutes, and a 1,050-word article shows 6 minutes.
Real reading speed varies with the reader, the language, and how technical the text is, so treat the figure as a guide for your readers rather than a precise measurement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the word counter work with Arabic and English text?
Yes. The tool counts words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, and paragraphs in Arabic, English, or text that mixes both, and the statistics update as you type.
How does the tool count words?
Every run of characters separated by spaces or line breaks counts as one word. Numbers and symbols that stand on their own between spaces are counted as words too.
How is the reading time calculated?
The tool divides the word count by an average reading speed of 200 words per minute and rounds the result up to the next whole minute.
Can I count the words in a Word or PDF file?
Yes. Open the file, select all the text, copy it, and paste it into the text box. A scanned PDF has no selectable text, so it needs text recognition (OCR) first.
